Altrincham vs Curzon preview

Updated: Jan 27, 2023

Cup fever has gripped Curzon once again!

The Nash’s FA Trophy journey will continue on Tuesday as we travel to play Altrincham at the J Davidson Stadium. The game was due to be played last Saturday however horribly cold temperatures caused the game to be rescheduled for Tuesday night. Curzon reached this stage following a 3-1 win away at Southport last month. This game is Altrincham’s first of the competition as this is the round where National League sides enter.

Tuesday's clash will be the Nash’s first game in 14 days after our previous three games, against Banbury, Kidderminster and this fixture, were postponed due to weather. The last game was a tough game against Darlington at the Tameside Stadium where the visitors came out on top by a score of 2-0. Hopefully this won’t mean too much for Tuesday as despite poor league form, we have performed well in the cups this year, getting to the first-round proper of the FA Cup.

The hosts currently sit 14th in the National League and haven’t lost in their past 5 games. In that run, they’ve held high flying sides like Woking and Southend to draws. Altrincham’s main threat on Saturday will likely be their top goal scorer, Ryan Colclough, who has 7 goals in the league so far.

Tuesday's game will see many Curzon players return to their old club. Mahon, Hobbo, Hancock, Hampson and Peers have all played for Altrincham in the past. The latter, Tom Peers, spent 4 years at Alty before making the switch from the west to the east of the Metrolink and joining Curzon Ashton.

It should be a good game on Tuesday and fingers crossed the Nash can carry their good cup form into this one. Let’s hope there’s plenty of fans there to support the lads!
