Inside the dressing room- Sam Walker

In this week's instalment of Inside The Dressing Room, we speak to Sam Walker about his time at Curzon and this weekend's game against AFC Fylde. The experienced midfielder has picked up over 250 appearances for Curzon across numerous spells.

Q: We had a great 5-2 win last Saturday, is that the exact sort of thing we need to give us that momentum to kick on and start picking up more points?

A: I think it was a game that for us as players we recognised it was significant and we had to win the game and we can take confidence from a dominant performance. I think the players in our dressing room are honest and know we’ve not been anywhere near as consistent as we would like to be but I thought over all the pitch on Saturday everybody performed and that’s what you have to week in week out in this league if you want to pick up points.

Q: Tough away game against top of the league this weekend, is it a case of going there and just playing for a draw, or are we going there with full belief we can win? A: In my opinion you can never enter a game wanting anything less than three points regardless who you are playing. Fylde are going really well at the minute but if we can nullify their strengths and take away the things they are good at and counter that with what our strengths are and what we are good at then we’ve got a good chance of winning the game. I think mindset and concentration will be key for us on Saturday.

Q: You’ve accumulated 263 appearances in a Curzon shirt and are nothing short of a club legend, what has been your favourite moment at the club?

A: I’ve been lucky to have lots of great moments with the club which makes it hard to narrow it down to just one. Obviously the promotions and cup finals, the big games during those promotion seasons that were crucial to being successful but I’d have to say the relationships and bonds I’ve made with my teammates, the staff, the hierarchy of the club and the devoted fans of the club. That’s what makes it all special for me.

Q: It’s safe to say you’re one of the most experienced members of the curzon dressing room, is that experience key when we have a typically younger squad?

A: I think my experience and advice can be useful at times if a word here or there to one of the younger lads might help or guide them in some way. The young lads are great to be fair, they all have good attitudes and want to learn and want to be the best footballers they can be so I don’t have to say to much to them as they carry themselves really well.

Q: It’s been a tough season to the say the least, are you still confident we can avoid being drawn into a dramatic relegation battle?

A: Every seasons tough regardless of position or circumstance because every team goes through it at one point or multiple during a season, that’s just the nature of the game. For me, it’s how you manage through the trying times and show the character, resilience and know how to fight through and push on. With our staff and our team I know we have that in spades and anything less won’t be accepted. We’re looking upwards.
